Katori Station (香取駅, Katori-eki?) is a railway station operated by JR East’s Narita Line located in Katori, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. It is 43.6 kilometers from the terminus of the Narita Line at Sakura Station. It is also the nominal terminal station for the Kashima Line, although all Kashima Line trains currently terminate at Sawara Station.
History
Katori Station was opened on November 10, 1931 as a station on the Japanese Government Railway (JGR) for both passenger and freight operations. After World War II, the JGR became the Japan National Railways (JNR). Scheduled freight operations were suspended from October 1, 1961. The station has been unattended since July 1, 1970, and the Kashima Line began operations on August 20 of the same year. The station building was replaced in 1986. The station was absorbed into the JR East network upon the privatization of the Japan National Railways (JNR) on April 1, 1987.
